Four dynamic artists: Simon Lovelace (SYD), SKEL (SYD), Clay Smith (BRIS) and Tiffany Atkin (BRIS), have come together to bring you a selection of enigmatic, low brow works that subvert and reconstruct a multitude of concepts, through a range of mediums and disciplines.

Simon Lovelace's pop imagery is subversive and derisive and is reminiscent of 1970's exploitation film in its use of manipulation and previously 'innocent' images and characters. His work balances intimacy with kitsch and alludes to a neo-pop expression. Influenced by pop culture and surreal narrative, his luxuriously glossy artworks explore themes of beauty and hidden agenda.

Pop Artist SKEL creates highly detailed works which combine the popculture imagery she grew up with to tell stories of desire, relationships and the human condition. Sometimes funny, other times confronting; SKEL’s work has evolved to develop a unique and instantly recognisable style. Driven to re-contextualise the world around her, SKEL’s work is a mash-up of comic books, anime, film references & advertising material that illustrates the complexities of our relationships with society and each other.

Clay Smith’s art touches on nouveau illustrative aesthetics ingrained with underground sensibilities, wrapped up in a lampooning pasquinade. Stylistically, elements emerge from poster art, low brow, hard edge abstraction, art nouveau and pop surrealism. Clay has work held in private collections throughout England, the Netherlands and Australia.

Tiffany Atkin is an interdisciplinary artist from Brisbane, Australia. Influenced by Japanese pop/sub cultures, femininity and pop surrealism, her eclectic illustrations explore and challenge the boundaries between digital and traditional tools and mediums. She has exhibited work in various group and solo exhibitions in Japan, New York and Australia.
