Why make art? It’s competitive; it’s time consuming; there’s no job security; there’re no entry-level positions on Seek; there’re no entry-level positions on Gumtree; you won’t make enough money to live in New York; you won’t make enough money for pea coats and you definitely won’t make enough money to be a drug addict but stay fashionable.

The 2016 Fresh Blood Festival wants you to answer that question, and to have the audacity to do something about it. At the heart of Vena Cava’s ethos of giving artists a safe space to be anything but safe is Fresh Blood: a festival of student theatre, art and culture. With the gap ever widening between amateur and professional theatre, we as students have a choice. We can try and worm our way into the cramped box of government-funded art, or we can revel in moneyless, jobless freedom.

Fresh Blood Festival 2016 makes without mandate, speaks its mind, offends and excites and creates and destroys.
