The 7th annual Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing opens for submissions on March 7th 2016. Submissions close at midnight on Monday June 13th, 2016.

Work has finished on Unitywater’s Peregian Beach Water Tower Mural. A big shout out to our dedicated team of artists and arts-workers; Travis Vinson, Joel Fergie, Peter Breen for their hard work & also the Peregian Beach community members who become involved over the course of the project. Mural based on an original artwork designed by local artist Colin Passmore and chosen as the final mural image by community vote.

Read More“Where the Wild Things Are” is a commissioned public art installation painted on the Tarragindi Guide Hut complex by well known Brisbane artist Johnny Beer [Gimiks Born] with concept, curating and project management by Peter Breen [Director – Jugglers Art Space Inc]. The launch of the installation on September 12 included Afrobeat, Lismore Lantern monsters and lantern making workshops by Tarragindi Memorial Kindergarten and Tarragindi Scouts. The project was a joint funded venture by Arts Queensland, Brisbane City Council [Moorooka Ward] and Jugglers Art Space Inc.

The Emerging Artist Development Program with Inala Flexible Learning Centre has come to a close at Jugglers Art Space Inc. We would like to give our thanks to the beautiful young people that came along and participated in these workshops and made the space come alive! We are very grateful to artists Libby Harward, Lucks Shaare & Alex Lange for being apart of this program – their creative input and time have been invaluable. Furthermore none of this would have been possible without the love and care from devoted Inala FLC teacher Jo Campbell and Jugglers Workshop Facilitator Nina-Rae. EADP workshops are run to provide opportunities for young people to learn about varied arts practices and express themselves in a safe environment.

Where are you based?
I am based in Brisbane and Sydney. I work at the National Art School in Sydney and am a PHD candidate at the Queensland College of Art, where I have my studio.
“Last night I went to a meeting organised by #FreeTheArts to discuss how to formulate a response to Senator George Brandis’s frightening changes to the Australia Council at the Trades and Labour Council building in Peel Street, South Brisbane. Along with the director of Metro Arts , I was the only representative of the Visual Arts there as this campaign appears to be largely pushed along by the performing arts. The wonderful Sara and Norm from Feral Arts are significant leaders in Freethearts movement. The meeting was coordinated by the MEAA [Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance [Union]. This is a test case as we have seen before by conservative governments as they use the “soft target” of the arts to begin the slow but planned dismantling of our strong cultural foundations. We need to send intelligent well thought out strong hand written letters about this change to the arts to our local politicians/members and particularly marginal seats eg: Theresa Gambaro [Brisbane].
The arts are essential!”

- There has been a real return to and appreciation for craftsmanship – people are looking for a sense of authenticity and traditional, drawing offers that.
White Silence is an ongoing group exercise at Jugglers where invited artists collaborate on an interpretive response to a controlled environment of selected music and silence, usually in one of the Jugglers exhibition spaces. This is done without any verbal communication between participants. The idea is borrowed from the mystics across a range of spiritual traditions in an attempt to also create a crucible for possible moments of inexplicable presence, new understandings and epiphany. We encourage the use of these videos for private reflection and contemplation.
