Jugglers will be ending its long commitment to subsidised and affordable art studios/spaces from February 5, 2023 when we end the lease on 31 Newington Street, Tarragindi. From 2014- 2023 we have provided affordable studio space in this once Girl Guide Huts owned by Brisbane City Council and leased back to community organisations.
We have activated many spaces across Brisbane since 2003 [ It is just 20 years since we moved into 103 Brunswick Street - now sold] and since we began working with the arts community in building community.
We are now part of Paul Andrew’s collection of information and data on the history of Artist Run Initiatives [ ARI’s] in Brisbane from the 1970’s. That is a big task for him and we have been included in that story and we are chuffed. More to come.
News on The Stairwell Project
We have linked up with Topology, a Brisbane based band and mentoring organisation to take on the administration and coordinating of The Stairwell Project. This has been evolving over the past 12 months and is proving to be a very very positive step we have taken. Christa Powell is the Creative Director [and lead violinist] of Topology and Peter Breen [Jugglers Director] is working with her and Topology in a voluntary consulting role for the forseeable future. Fund raising continues and to date we have funds via the Gaming Community Benefit Fund to continue the You Can Make Some Noise workshops in the Sony You Can Centre at the RBWH and we are now waiting for news from the RBWH Foundation re other funding to re-start the in-ward Staiwrell Programs.

The Stairwell Project - Musicians in Hospitals. Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Kangaroo Point.
Support, consultation and mentoring of emerging ARI’s, artists, stand up comedians, and musicians.
Advocacy for the arts during and after COVID-19.
Welcome home to Jugglers. The big news is that after 16 years, we are no longer at 103 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, but are very much alive and well. We are still all about being endlessly open, creative, and cultural and socially–minded. The building, bought by the YMCA, was a seamless and positive transition once we knew it was time to finish in that space. In 2018 and beyond Jugglers will continue through The Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing, The Stairwell Project, artist studios at Tarragindi Guide Hut and The Citywell Project. In our endeavour to support others, to grow the benefits of creative expression within the larger Brisbane community and to dig deep into the cultural and spiritual questions of our times, we continue keep our vision clear, that is: "to facilitate the health and growth of the core creative human spirit."
